“Devote Yourselves to Prayer”: Empowering Missions and Missionaries In Prayer Colossians 4:2-4 Dr. Grant Hodges Introduction What evangelism can we be praying for that is presently going on here? What evangelism (actually spreading the Gospel itself) COULD be going on here that isn’t? (be constructive :-) ) What would devoting ourselves to pray for evangelism look like? I. We Must Pray That God Will Open Doors For the Word verse 3 What were Paul’s witnessing opportunities at this point (see Philippians 1:12-18, another prison epistle)? Read Philippians 1:6 - what do we usually quote this verse to prove? Now read it in context (5-7), and see what particular work God is completing in Paul’s life? In your own life, what do you think an open door to witness would look like? II. What Is the Word (Logos)? Read John 1:1-18 and see what the Word (logos) is and does. Relate this to our mission first in prayer, then in evangelism. III. We Are to Be Grateful for the Mission of Prayer verse 2 What is the stereotypical attitude toward witnessing opportunities? Why is “thanksgiving” commanded for witnessing? (several answers) How would gratitude for witnessing affect our lives? |
